The D.C. Inferno Soccer Club is holding tryouts starting next Saturday for their upcoming spring season.

It marks the first time the club will play a spring season as they look to continue to grow by bringing in young players from throughout the area.

“For our youth who have a desire to play soccer, this gives them an opportunity to keep playing the sport they love at a competitive level,” coach Tom Shanklin said. “This gives kids who aren’t joining a high school team a chance to enjoy playing in the spring.”

Tryouts are available for all boys and girls who were born between the years 2002 and 2009. Players who are accepted to high school teams are not eligible to play during the spring season though.

The club hopes that participating in the spring will make them a better option for young players looking to join club teams in northeast Alabama.

“We absolutely want the entire county and surrounding area to be more involved in our program,” Shanklin said. “Several high schools around here don’t have soccer programs, so if kids at those schools wanted to play somewhere in the spring in the past, their only other options were to go to Huntsville, Gadsden or Birmingham. In the past, we’ve also only used the fields at the [Fort Payne] Sports Complex for three months out of the year before. Playing in the spring as well will help us utilize this facility to the best of our abilities.”

All tryouts will take place at the Fort Payne Sports Complex.

The first tryout is on Dec. 16, where boys will practice from noon to 2 p.m. before girls take the field from 2-4 p.m.

On Dec. 19, boys will have another tryout available from 5-7 p.m.

On Dec. 21, girls will also have one last tryout from 5-7 p.m.

The club will also be collecting contact information from parents during the tryouts.

The club’s spring season will run from late January through May, with team practices starting as early as Jan. 2.

Teams will practice on weekdays and play games on Saturdays.
