Sylvania swept the doubles matches Monday and downed DAR 6-3 in girls high school tennis at Northeast Alabama Community College.

Elvia Calvillo and Hannah Stephens took the No. 1 match 8-6 for the Lady Rams (2-0), while Edith Aguilar and Tiffany Culpepper prevailed 8-3 at No. 2. Kali Haynes and Shalane Bell won 8-0 at No. 3.

Aguilar took the No. 3 singles match 8-3. Haynes prevailed 8-0 at No. 4, and Culpepper was an 8-0 winner at No. 6.

SATURDAY: The Lady Rams downed Class 1A-3A, Section 4 opponent Faith Christian 5-4 in their season opener Saturday at NACC.

Calvillo (8-3 at No. 1), Stephens (8-0 at No. 2) and Bell (9-8, 7-1 at No. 3) picked up singles wins.

Calvillo and Aguilar won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Bell and Culpepper pulled out an 8-6 win at No. 3.


The Sylvania boys fell to DAR 8-1 on Monday at NACC. Blake York won the No. 2 singles match 8-1 for the Rams (0-2).

Faith Christian handed Sylvania a 7-2 setback Saturday. York won 8-5 at No. 2 singles, while Tyler Jackson took the No. 3 match 9-8 (7-2).
