FYFFE – The Fyffe Lady Red Devils punched their ticket to Jacksonville State for the 2A Northeast Regional Tournament following Monday’s 68-44 win over Asbury in the sub-regional round at Mike Cochran Gymnasium.
Monday’s opening quarter saw both offenses jump out to fast starts, but it was Fyffe who ended the quarter with a 19-15 advantage.
Fyffe repeated that offensive performance in the second quarter while holding their former area rival to 11 points to grab a 38-26 halftime lead.
After the Lady Rams hit nearly half of their shots from the field in the first half, Fyffe’s defense held them to just 7-of-22 shooting in the second half.
Fyffe went on to outscore Asbury 17-8 in the third, which stretched their lead to 21 before the start of the fourth. Fyffe then easily held on down the stretch and clinched a spot in Jacksonville for a third consecutive year.
Alexia Barber shot 11-for-15 from the field and hit a pair of 3-pointers. She led Fyffe with 25 points and eight rebounds.
Gracie Hicks and Anabelle Taylor both shot 5-for-10 from the field. Hicks scored 14 points and Taylor netted 10.
Maggie Woodall hit four shots and scored 11 points. Madison Myers followed with seven points and Alyssa Webb finished with one point.
The Lady Devils will face Area 11 champion Sacred Heart Catholic on Friday in Jacksonville at 6 p.m. in the 2A Northeast Regional Semifinals.
