Improving its record to 25-4-1, Plainview rose one spot to No. 2 in Class 3A in this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association state high school softball rankings.

Fort Payne (20-7) received nominations in 6A, and Geraldine (12-8-1) and Collinsville (10-10-1) were nominated in 3A.

Plainview shut out Asbury in dominant fashion Tuesday, capitalizing on forced walks and other bases-loaded situations to win 15-0 by run rule.

The Bears remained behind top-ranked 19-6 Prattville Christian this week, with Houston Academy (24-4) ranking third, Pleasant Valley (23-12) fourth and Mobile Christian (19-6) fifth.
