Plainview High School’s girls tennis team finished 12th in a field of 14 on Tuesday at the Class 1A-3A state tournament at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Montgomery.

The competition opened Monday.

Abigail Hampton earned Plainview’s lone singles win, picking up a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the first round over an opponent from Decatur at No. 3.

At No. 2 doubles, Plainview’s Madison Johnson and Cassidy Hood rallied for a 0-6, 7-6, 6-4 victory over Madison Academy in the opening round.

Montgomery Academy won the championship with 72 points. Houston Academy was next with 48, followed by Deshler with 37. Plainview scored five.

It was the fourth state tournament appearance for coach David Holt’s Lady Bears.
