The Fort Payne youth football team is headed to the championship game this weekend.

Fort Payne’s A team Division A black team defeated the Boaz Pirates 33-0 to earn a spot in the Super Bowl championship game on Saturday at Albertville at 7:30 p.m.

The Wildcats have a 7-3 record with losses to Douglas, Etowah and Scottsboro.

Fort Payne will play Gadsden City on Saturday for the title.

Coach Patrick Barnes said this has been a fun group to coach.

“We’ve got a great group of kids that are fun to be around and they are very coachable,” Barnes said. “We’ve done things week to week to give us an advantage and give us a chance to win, They’ve done a really good job of catching on to adjustments quickly.”

Many of the players will be making their second trip to the super bowl. Fort Payne also made it in 2013 with an undefeated record, but lost. Barnes is hoping this group can finish.

“Not everybody on this team has been but the nucleus of this team has been before,” Barnes said. “We didn’t win the last time we went and we are hoping we can seal the deal this time.”

The game will be Saturday at McCord Field in Albertville.
