COLLINSVILLE – The Collinsville Lady Panthers are 2A, Area 13 champions after a pair of runaway wins over the Fyffe Lady Red Devils on Wednesday and Thursday at home.
Fyffe defeated Asbury twice to finish runner-up in the tournament and will also advance to the 2A North Regionals in Florence next week.
Collinsville jumped ahead with a fast start in Thursday’s area finals with three runs in the bottom of the first.
That rally started when Brittany Rivera reached on an error before Caroline Brannon walked. Emma Terrell later drove in both runners with a 2-RBI double and scored a batter later when Sis Barkley doubled to make the score 3-0.
Fyffe then answered back in the top of the second with a 2-RBI double from Madison Myers that scored both Anabelle Taylor and Summer Guinn, but Fyffe wouldn’t plate another run for the rest of the game.
Collinsville began to pull away for good in the bottom of the second, which saw seven Lady Panthers reach base consecutively.
That rally started with four straight 1-out singles from Lily Wills, Emily Thrower, Maggie McKinney and Rivera to score a run and load the bases. Brannon and Courtney Baine then followed with back-to-back 2-RBI doubles to stretch the lead to 8-2.
Collinsville added one run in the third when Brannon hit a sacrifice fly to center field and drove in Wills from third. The Lady Panthers then went up by double digits with four more runs in the fourth.
That fourth inning started with back-to-back doubles from Terrell and Barkley. Wills later drove in Barkley with an RBI single to make the score 11-2.
McKinney and Rivera then both reached with two outs on a single and a walk to load the bases before Brannon capped off the Lady Panthers’ scoring spree with a 2-RBI single to left field.
Thrower pitched all four innings in the mercy-rule win for Collinsville. She struck out two, walked three and gave up two earned runs on three hits. She also batted 2-for-3 at the plate and scored once.
Brannon led the Lady Panthers’ lineup with a 5-RBI day after she batted 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Baine, Terrell and Barkley all had two RBIs each and Rivera and Wills had one each.
