Casey Miller is one of four Plainview seniors who will make the trip to the Class 1A-3A state tournament in Mobile after falling just short the last two years.

While there is currently no tournament to determine a DeKalb County high school tennis champion, Plainview’s boys and girls can claim the prize on an unofficial basis.

The Lady Bears broke a two-match losing skid Tuesday, downing Sylvania 9-0 in a Class 3A, Section 4 competition at Northeast Alabama Community College.

The Bears won the boys match by the same scoring, giving both Plainview squads season sweeps of DeKalb County brethren Sylvania and Fort Payne.

Taylor Pack (8-0 at No. 1), Casey Miller (8-1 at No. 2), Madison Johnson (8-1 at No. 3), Abigail Hampton (8-0 at No. 4), Cassidy Hood (8-2 at No. 5) and Avery Holt (8-5 at No. 6) earned singles win for the Plainview girls (7-2, 2-0).

Pack and Miller took the No. 1 doubles match 8-0. Johnson and Hood won 8-2 at No. 3, while Hampton and Holt prevailed 8-0 at No. 3.

Sylvania fell to 3-5 overall, 2-3 in the section.
