Lady 'Cats season ends at Hazel Green

Mattie Prewett led the Lady Wildcats with 14 points Monday.

HAZEL GREEN – The Fort Payne Lady Wildcats had their season come to a close Monday in an 81-40 loss to Class 6A’s defending state champion Hazel Green Lady Trojans.

Hazel Green caught fire from deep range early and often on their home court Monday. The Lady Trojans (30-3) drained 15 3-pointers, 11 of which came in the first half, while the Lady Wildcats (20-9) hit just one from deep range all night.

Hazel Green’s 15 threes came on just 23 attempts, giving a them a 65.2 shooting percentage from beyond the arc Monday.

Fort Payne took an early 2-point advantage before Hazel Green ripped off 18 straight points to nearly put the game out of reach.

The Lady Trojans led 21-8 after one, 46-15 at the half and 65-27 at the end of the third.

Junior Mattie Prewett led the Lady Wildcats with 14 points while junior classmate Isabelle Goggans led the team with 10 rebounds.
