The Fort Payne girls varsity golf team features on three members — one of which is a first year golfer — and two of them will compete next at the sub-state meet Monday.

Elle Kate Patterson and Alexis Chambers each finished Monday one under par in order to secure a spot at the sub-state meeting May 2 at Highland Park in Birmingham.

The two each shot a 71 in the final round of the sectional meet in Athens at the Canebrake Golf Club.

Chambers and Patterson matched each other stroke for stroke in two playoff holes, before Patterson notched the third place spot of the third playoff hole.

The two will compete with schools from across the region for a chance at the state title, which will be held May 9-10 at Hampton Cove golf trail in Huntsville.
