Ten DeKalb County varsity football players received 2020 all-state acclaim and three gained honorable mention status from the Alabama Sports Writers Association last week.
AHSAA Class 3A state champion Fyffe had five players earn all-state honors. Quarterback Ike Rowell was named as a 3A first-team offensive athlete with tight end Brody Dalton and offensive lineman Caleb Lyles receiving first-team all-state honors. Malachi Mize was listed as a second-team defensive athlete and Ty Bell earned a first-team selection as a linebacker.
Class 3A honorable mentions included Fyffe punter Justin Stiefel and Plainview defensive back Noah White.
Also in 3A, Collinsville’s Blake Sparks (LB) and Dalton Hughes (DB) were second-team all-state selections.
In 6A, Fort Payne’s punter/kicker Alex McPherson earned a first-team defensive selection.
In 1A, Valley Head’s Luke Harrison (DL) and Jordan Burt (DB) received second-team defensive acclaim, with teammate Bryson Morgan (RB) receiving an honorable mention.
