The Geraldine Bulldogs’ golf team finished its season with a fourth place finish at the sub-state tournament last week.
The team, which featured one female golfer, Kaylee Willingham, won seven-of-eight matches, finished second in the county tournament and third at sectionals before the sub-state match.
Logan Forrester was the low medalist for the DeKalb County Tournament at Dogwood Hills, and he qualified for state after winning a playoff at sub-state.
Forrester was tied for second place in the Individual Competition after shooting a 73. Forrester sank a five-foot birdie to win the playoff hole and clinch the spot at state.
Forrester’s tee time will be 10:45 a.m. today, and it will be a follow-up to his first round Monday at Hampton Cove in Huntsville.
Head coach Jeremy Smith said his team’s performance this season despite their youth.
“Our team had a lot of success this year, mainly because of their dedication and hard work,” Smith said. ”We had several inexperienced players who really improved as the season went on. This group really pulled for each other, and they were all ecstatic that Logan qualified. We hope to be in this position as a team next year, as we don't have any seniors.”
