GERALDINE — Then-Geraldine Principal Billy Ray Morris handed the reins of the school’s volleyball program to his daughter, Cristie Brothers, in 1997.
BIRMINGHAM – The Geraldine Lady Bulldogs put up a solid fight against a juggernaut of a program in the first round of the AHSAA Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday, but ultimately fell in four sets to the Bayside Academy Lady Admirals.
RAINSVILLE – The No. 8-ranked Plainview Lady Bears swept their way through two matches in straight sets to win the 2017 Class 3A, Area 14 Tournament on their home court Tuesday night.
IDER – After two long days of play at Ider’s Gordon Scott Gymnasium, the Geraldine Lady Bulldogs emerged victorious from the 2017 DeKalb County Volleyball Tournament with a clean sweep through the winners’ bracket.
Class 3A’s No. 3-ranked Geraldine Lady Bulldogs are off to an 11-6 start after facing some tough competition among several larger programs at the Huntsville Ironman volleyball Tournament over the weekend.
FORT PAYNE – Former Snead State assistant volleyball coach Meagan Johnson was recently announced as Fort Payne newest head volleyball coach and has been working with the Lady ‘Cats since mid-July.
BOAZ – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced that 35 Snead State Community College student-athletes, including three former DeKalb County stars, earned NJCAA All-Academic awards.
BIRMINGHAM – The Plainview Bears, Fyffe Red Devils and Ider Hornets all traveled to the Birmingham Crossplex Wednesday to compete in the AHSAA State Volleyball Tournament.
The No. 7 Geraldine Bulldogs had their season end a win shy of booking an appearance in the state tournament Thursday when they fell to Carbon Hill who went on to win the Class 3A North Super Regional.
Three DeKalb County high school volleyball teams qualified for the state tournament and will compete with the best teams in the state starting Wednesday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
GERALDINE — Coaches in other sports have come and gone at Geraldine since 1997, but Cristie Brothers has remained steady and strong as the head coach of the Bulldogs volleyball program.
