Aquacats prepare to dive into season

The Fort Payne Aquacats begin their 2016 campaign next week in coach Lisa Shaddix’s third season at the helm.

The recreational team hopes to perform like they did last season, when the Aquacats sent multiple swimmers and a relay team to the state meet.

Shaddix said the team is ready to get the season started.

“Last year we had some great swimmers,” Shaddix said. “Our goal this year is to improve everyday and perform like we did a year ago.”

The Aquacats open their season June 7 at Scottsboro.

The team's first meet at home is June 14.

The Aquacats travel to Boaz June 16.

They host Albertville June 23.

The team competes at Arab June 28.

They wrap up the regular season June 30 at Guntersville where they swim against Decatur as well.

Shaddix said she wants each member of the team to improve while enjoying themselves.

“I just want these kids to have a good time being active,” Shaddix said. “By the end of the season, I hope everyone on the team can say that they’ve cut time off of their events that they race in and that they had fun while doing it.”
